Saturday, February 18, 2012: Dranesville CoBrethren and the Salvation Army (DC) 2:30pm and leave for DC at approx. 5pm NEED chili and lots of white socks to take to the homeless this month...will you help keep the homeless warm this season?; Please call if you can fix a pot of chili and/or purchase some white socks for those in need.
Wednesday, February 22: 7:00 pm Ash Wednesday service; The purpose of the Ash Wednesday service is to begin Lent - but more importantly - to remember Christ fasted in order to prepare himself for ministry. That becomes our job as well - to concentrate on God's call in our life to either continue it, change it, or deepen our commitment to our church and the kingdom of God.
Starting on February 25, we will also begin again our Saturday prayer time from 11:00 am to 12 noon. This will last until March 31. This will be another opportunity to deepen our faith. There will be communion elements if any would like to receive them. Also, the pastor will be available if any have any prayer requests or would like to speak to him.
Starting on Sunday, February 26 at 9:45 am, we will begin a 6-week series on Love. The title of the series is "40 Days of Love" written by Rick Warren. We will be looking at the key emotion in the Christian faith - Love. Sermons during Lent will reflect what is discussed during the series.
Outreach Project: The Service and Outreach Team and the Discipleship Team are working together to raise funds to acquire two (2) heifers costing $500.00 each to send to Kenya. This is what this donation can accomplish. When a family has a cow, every morning there's a glass of rich milk for the children to drink before heading off to school. Classes are paid with the income from the sale of milk, and there's even enough to share with the neighbors.; A good dairy cow can produce four gallons of milk a day - enough for a family to drink and share with neighbors. Milk protein transforms sick, malnourished children into healthy boys and girls. The sale of surplus milk earns money for school fees, medicine, clothing and home improvements.; Better still, every gift multiplies, as the animal's first offspring is passed on to another family-then they also agree to pass on an animal, and so on.; And because a healthy cow can produce a calf every year, every gift will be passed on and eventually help an entire community move from poverty to self reliance. Now that's a gift worth giving!
